The Simpson College Biology & Environmental Science Department invites applications for a one-year, full-time visiting appointment at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. Teaching responsibilities will begin in late August 2022. Responsibilities We seek a broadly trained ecologist, plant biologist, organismal biologist, or environmental scientist who complements existing strengths in the department to join our academically diverse and collegial team. The position includes potentially teaching courses at all levels of the undergraduate biology and environmental science program aligning the candidate’s area of expertise with curricular needs of the department. The Visiting Assistant Professor will teach a total of 6 courses, including lectures and labs, across the 2022-23 Academic Year (fall semester, spring semester, and May Term). The Institution Simpson College is an independent, selective, and comprehensive liberal-arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Qualifications Candidates must possess an M.S., Ph.D., or be ABD in some aspect of ecology, plant biology, organismal biology, or evolutionary biology no later than August 25, 2022. Experience Applicants should have evidence of demonstrated or potential for excellence in student-centered teaching at the undergraduate level. Successful applicants must show a commitment to cultural diversity and intentionally inclusive teaching practices. We expect relevant coursework and/or research at the graduate level for courses an applicant would propose to teach at Simpson.
