Internal Number: 43465 Position Number: PSO001 Department: Safety & Security (Adm) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 12 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs all essential job functions of a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer including: effecting arrests; preparing investigative and accident reports; exercise independent judgment in search and seizure and arrest situations; operate a police vehicle in all conditions; communicate effectively utilizing the police radio systems; conduct criminal investigations; pursue fleeing suspects; perform rescue operations; utilize various firearms and other use of force tools; conduct foot patrols; conduct surveillance operations; effectively communicate with people in all situations; maintain control when confronted with verbal abuse; administer medical assistance based on level of training; and transport and process detainees. Minimum Experience / Education: Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: Demonstrated competencies associated with the following duties: effective performance of general patrol duties (emergency response, medical, traffic, and service); the ability to perform effective investigations; an understanding of crime prevention and community policing in a university environment; the ability to effectively use and maintain law enforcement equipment; and the ability to effectively perform telecommunications duties. Minimum age 21. Successful completion of a medical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug screen. North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (NC BLET) certified candidates; NC BLET certified officers who have been away from law enforcement for less than one year; Out-of-state certified officers; Out-of state certified officers who have been away from law enforcement for less than one year; Candidates currently enrolled in a NC BLET certification program.
