SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing all activities within the Financial Aid Office. Establishes and maintains a service-oriented financial aid team that is committed to creating an excellent student experience. Ensures accurate and secure student financial data, while maintaining confidentiality of records (FERPA). Provides timely information to students and families and serves as the chief compliance officer for Title IV federal and state financial aid regulations and provides demonstrated leadership in the use of new and existing technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Administer federal aid programs according to guidelines established by the Department of Education including annual applications, annual operations reports and internal reconciliation efforts and report to reviewing entities, such as auditors, program reviewers, and accreditation teams.
Administer state aid program according to the guidelines established by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission including annual applications, annual operations reports and internal reconciliation efforts and report to reviewing entities, such as auditors, program reviewers, and accreditation teams.
Develop, implement and maintain a proactive student-centered customer service approach for the delivery of financial aid services to prospective and current students and parents
Develop and conduct financial aid presentations and participate in outreach activities, such as New Student Registration Days, High School Outreach, financial aid workshops, campus visit events, etc.
Facilitate coordination and communication between respective college departments as they relate to the Financial Aid Office’s role in creating a positive educational experience for students. Integrate efforts to maximize Financial Aid’s role in recruiting and retention.
Perform enrollment management research, complete surveys, and prepare reports in support of the office of enrollment management and the President’s Office.
Recommend, develop, and implement policies for the Financial Aid office including, but not limited to, the awarding of annual, restricted and endowed scholarships
Review and interpret incoming material from the Department of Education in regard to program changes. Develop policies and procedures for the implementation and administration of these changes for our students, faculty, staff and administration.
Oversee the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Return of Title IV Funds processes. Oversee coordination of student loan processing between students, federal government, and BCU. Oversee Title IV refunds and repayments, including U.S. Department of Education and National Student Loan Data System notifications.
Work with Comptroller and Business Office to ensure accurate and timely exchange of information and awards between school information systems. Oversee reconciliation process.
Maintain proficiency and active memberships in the field through the participation in local, regional, and national financial aid training and organizations
Manage a multi-million dollar budget
Supervise work study students. Supervise two Financial Aid Counselors. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
BA/BS degree. Masters preferred.
5 years of experience required
Extensive knowledge of both federal and state financial aid policies and regulations
Knowledge of institutional aid and the policies that govern it
Skills that are analytical and detail-orientated
Knowledge and understanding of data processing systems
