ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR COLLECTIONS, Student Financial Services (SFS), to ensure access and affordability for MIT students and families. Will serve as an organizational expert on the terms and conditions, including repayment options, for the Federal Perkins, Direct Stafford, and Direct PLUS Loan programs and the MIT Technology Loan and Educational Loan Plan programs; provide students with the information and counseling necessary to meet their financial obligation to the Institute; manage the collection of the Institute's accounts receivable and student loan collection debt; and understand and comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collections practices Act, and the Fair Accurate Credit Transaction Act.
Job Requirements REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; at least five years' documented, progressive financial experience in a college or university setting managing federal and institutional loan portfolios, working with institutional debt collection specifically dedicated to student account receivables and educational loan collection management; knowledge of collection and credit law (i.e., Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act); ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply Institute, federal, and state rules and regulations; high level of discretion and judgment in handling confidential personal, financial, and sometimes medical information; excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; commitment to developing connections with clients and providing superb customer service; active listening skills and ability to document client interaction accurately; ability to make decisions when dealing with individualized problems, set work priorities, and manage workload in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment; and accountability for own work and for building customer confidence in SFS and the Institute.
